30200 - Zombie Coffin Car, Monster Fighters

The Zombie Coffin Car promotion is a small set that tips it's chauffeur's cap to the rockabilly hotrod style of the Monster Fighter series.

The Monster Fighters series struck gold in the zombie craze of the preteen years of the 21st century. This set includes the more common of several coveted zombie minifigs: the Zombie driver. He wears a tattered blue suit, torn on front and back, revealing his rotten grey flesh underneath. The Zombie Driver's eyes are wide open but empty and soulless with his cheeks sunken in beneath. With his moldy-toothed snarl he is actually pretty humorous to look at perched inside his hotrod. The single gloved right hand is a nice touch as well.

The car is a pretty simple build, basically a coffin piece set on some race wheels. The use of megaphones as headlights was a nice touch to give the car an antique feel. The flames coming out the back are a necessity for the hot rod aesthetic, but the tilting arm piece exhausts could have been done more creatively in my opinion.

Overall, I think the major charm in this set is in the Zombie Driver minifig, and the fact that it is hard to find promo set. The car may seem a little lacking compared to other Lego antique car models (400761 Zombie Car, Major Steele's Car from 9463 The Werewolf, or any of the cars from The Adventurers series), but for the original price tag of $3.99, it wasn't a bad deal, even if just for the Zombie Driver figure.

The Monster Hunters - Introduction

I am fortunate enough to be employed at a studio where we're allowed to decorate our desks with whatever immature toy junk that pleases us. Not surprisingly, I have a few minifigs and Lego sets cluttering my area, but my setup looks like a joke compared to the hairy wolf-man-child's desk next to mine (by hairy wolfman I mean he's taller than me and has a beard. I'm still working on mine and everyone else with one shall be considered an ape until I have one). Logan (yes he shares the name of Wolverine) was kind enough to let me shoot his expansive Monster Fighters collection for your viewing, reviewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Lego has been around almost as long as classic horror monsters. It's nice to finally see the two combined.

Paintball Player - Series 10 Minfigures

The Paint Ball player is a fun addition to the minifig collection that comes with some interesting new pieces.

I can't speak for anywhere else, but my local Wal Mart and Barnes and Noble are pouring these guys out the ears. As I searched for my Sad Clown or Revolutionary soldier, I would always feel one of the paint ball helmets and set the packet down for the next one. It wasn't until a whole display went on sale that I finally broke down and selected one from the masses. I was not disappointed. The paintball player was an interesting design for a minifig, and certainly not the first idea for one in my mind, but he is actually a pretty creative little dude. Covered in paint splatters on front to back, and wearing a cocky, mischievous grin that's evident even with the helmet on make the Paintball Player quite a character. The paintball gun is pretty cool as well, and this is probably the only place we're going to see it. The helmet is a nice piece as well, I really like the ski goggles.

Motorcycle Mechanic - Series 10 Minifigures

The Motorcyle Mechanic is born to ride... Unfortunately he'll just be riding the little minifig stand until I get a good hog to set him on.

The Mechanic is a nice figure design wise. The mechanic's face is masked with aviators and a thick mustache and he's garbed with a denim cut off vest complete with a skull and crossbones stitched on the back, and his left arm has a rock and roll flame tattoo that would make any pool cue breaking biker proud. His accessories are a little simple, just a red bandana we've been collecting since the early pirate days, and one of the wrench/screwdriver combo tools.

Highland Battler - Series 6 Minifigures

Once again Lego impresses with another historic warrior release. In the vein of Braveheart and Rob Roy -or even Highlander, it's the Highland Battler!

The Highland-Battler was a must have addition to my existing collection of diverse warriors. He comes with a double edged sword, decorated round shield with center stud, and majestic brown locks. His body is detailed with plaid patterns fitting to his Scottish descent, and the look on his face invokes a thirst for blood, or haggis.

Grandpa - Series 10 Minifigures

You though you'd seen bald Lego heads, but not until now. Not until Grandpa.

The Grandpa figure is a hilarious minifig with suspenders holding up his pants, his 'Old Times' newspaper and of course: the bald head piece. He also comes with a generic white mug. I thought a cane might have been a nice item in place of the mug, but I'm still really happy with him. I think the Grandpa would be right at home in one of the old Adventurer's cars or maybe Major Steele's car from Monster Fighters.

Decorator - Series 10 Minifigures

We always called him the painter, until we realized that he was really the decorator... limited only to mere interior design.

The decorator was the guy that we would always feel in the package and set a side as we obsessively searched for the centurion or Medusa. I picked one up anyway, because as far as the common town folk of Lego go, I think the Decorator is pretty cool. He comes with a not so common bucket, as well as the only paint roller accessory I've seen thus far. And I guess the light blue cylinder piece is probably pretty rare too.  At first look the Decorator's cap appears to be a standard ball cap, but it is actually a painter's hat.

Cave Woman - Series 5 Minifigures

The cave woman is a fitting companion to the Series 1 Caveman, she comes with a similar club and bone to hold up her hair.

It took some convincing, but after a brief discussion a coworker got me to use the bing search engine, solely to make points off of them. After a couple months I had saved up enough for a $5 amazon code and now we have the Cave Woman!

The Cave woman is well designed with her stitched animal hides, dirty (or bruised...) face, and bone hair pick. Her facial expression is pretty hilarious and unique as it isn't the standard Lego smile, but more of a concerned/ serious or perhaps 'you've got to be kidding me' look. Although the club is a cool accessory, I'm not sure it's the most fitting weapon for the Cave Woman, I thought a spear or more technologically advanced weapon would be cool since Lego makes such a big deal of her intelligence as opposed to the Cave Man's. Either way, the Cave Woman is a nice addition to the minifig collection and we always love when Lego offers counterparts to existing minifigs.

Baseball Fielder - Series 10 Minifigure

With his catcher's mit hand, the Baseball Fielder is a must have for sports lovers and minifig collectors alike.

Ah Baseball… as American as Hotdogs and salted peanuts! And not so surprisingly enough, you can purchase both at a baseball game, but the price of those snacks make retail Legos look cheap! The biggest problem with these sports minifigs is that I’ll always want a full teams, which usually won’t happen, unless we rewind to the old Lego and soccer and basketball sets when yellow was no longer the only race of a Lego minifigs. The fielder’s ball cap is a nice upgrade from the older ball caps that were much simpler. He also comes with a baseball glove in place of his left hand, which is pretty cool. I’m still waiting to see what Lego will use for a ball, or if they’ll ever give us one since the Series 3 Batter didn’t come with one either.

Trendsetter - Series 10 Minifigures

We see these ladies all over the place in reality, so it's quite fitting, and funny to see a Lego version.

The Trendsetter, aka Socialista, aka Lego version of my sister. She wasn’t necessarily a must have for me but she did come with some nice things like the dog, straightened hair, and smart phone complete with ‘LOL’ button. She has some cool jewelry designs on her torso and legs. Her face is mostly covered by ginormous sunglasses, which helps her fit the part. The dog is very small but also really cool, and I’m glad he didn’t get replaced by a Starbucks cup even though that may have been more fitting since Paris Hilton and her pup aren’t such a big deal any more (no complaints there).

Chicken Suit Guy - Series 9 Minifigures

The Chicken suit might contend with the Gorilla Suit as far as hilarity and over all fun regarding a minifig goes.

The Chicken Suit got our attention, because he's a lego guy... in a chicken suit. We can all admit we love seeing a guy run around in a chicken suit right? ...Maybe that's just me, but anyways this minifig is awesome. Along with the chicken mask, his arms are unique since they're actually chicken wings in place of the usual minifig arms. This guy is a sweet minfig to have squawking in the ranks.

Bunny Suit Guy - Series 7 Minfigures

A Bunny Suit wasn't incredibly suprising, but by no means does that mean it wasn't a fun addition to the collection.

After getting us hooked with the first two animal suit dudes, the bunny suit was a necessary addition to the collection. The bunny mask is more of a hood, unlike the other animal suits, exposing the minifig face and giving the character ears rather than a full rabbit face. He comes complete with a carrot and cotton tail!
