30200 - Zombie Coffin Car, Monster Fighters

The Zombie Coffin Car promotion is a small set that tips it's chauffeur's cap to the rockabilly hotrod style of the Monster Fighter series.

The Monster Fighters series struck gold in the zombie craze of the preteen years of the 21st century. This set includes the more common of several coveted zombie minifigs: the Zombie driver. He wears a tattered blue suit, torn on front and back, revealing his rotten grey flesh underneath. The Zombie Driver's eyes are wide open but empty and soulless with his cheeks sunken in beneath. With his moldy-toothed snarl he is actually pretty humorous to look at perched inside his hotrod. The single gloved right hand is a nice touch as well.

The car is a pretty simple build, basically a coffin piece set on some race wheels. The use of megaphones as headlights was a nice touch to give the car an antique feel. The flames coming out the back are a necessity for the hot rod aesthetic, but the tilting arm piece exhausts could have been done more creatively in my opinion.

Overall, I think the major charm in this set is in the Zombie Driver minifig, and the fact that it is hard to find promo set. The car may seem a little lacking compared to other Lego antique car models (400761 Zombie Car, Major Steele's Car from 9463 The Werewolf, or any of the cars from The Adventurers series), but for the original price tag of $3.99, it wasn't a bad deal, even if just for the Zombie Driver figure.
